Madrid’s Sunsets
Equip your bike with a wicker basket, a bottle of cava, and some strawberries, and take your partner to watch the sunset in Madrid. You’ll need to check the time since it varies depending on the season (Google can help with that). In Madrid, there are several spots with amazing sunset views. Here’s a list of some of the most incredible:
-
Monument to Alfonso XII (Retiro Park) — 1.5 km Route here. From the steps in front of the lake, you can enjoy spectacular views of the sunset, with the sun reflecting on the water—it’s incredible. There are usually people around, but it’s not overcrowded, so you can find a quiet spot. You’re sure to find a corner on the stairs to share a special moment with your partner.
Also, in spring and summer, there’s often a guy playing flamenco guitar, which creates an amazing atmosphere.
Templo de Debod — 5.4 km Route here. It’s the quintessential place in Madrid to watch sunsets, but unfortunately it has become overcrowded. It looks beautiful, but with so many people and so much noise, it’s not very romantic, to be honest. I’m including it as an option.
Cerro del Tío Pepe — 3.5 km. . Route here. A spectacular spot to watch the sunset as well as enjoy a panoramic view of Madrid. There’s a bit of an uphill climb to get there, but nothing too difficult. The park has 7 hills (called “las 7 tetas”) from which you can climb up to see the views. Imagine the city skyline with the sun setting in an orange-red glow… Spectacular!

Picnic in Madrid’s parks:
Again, bike, wicker basket, and picnic blanket. If you don’t want to prepare the picnic yourself, I recommend the Backery Mallorca on Calle Serrano, where you can choose a gourmet picnic to your liking, very varied and delicious. Casa de Campo (Mirador de la Sartén). 5.8 km. Route here.
With views of the city surrounded by trees and tranquility. You can get here by crossing the city via bike lanes or along Madrid Río. This spot also has tables and benches for more comfort. Then you can lie down on the grass and draw hearts with your fingers in the sky. Quinta de los Molinos Park. 7.8 km. Route here.
In the San Blas district, you’ll find this fabulous park featuring a small palace, a lake, landscaped gardens, lawns, and one of the largest almond tree plantations in the city. I recommend visiting this park in spring, when the almond trees bloom. Imagine being under a flowering almond tree, with your picnic blanket on the grass, flower petals falling from the trees… and you with your partner, feeling the love in the air.
-
Madrid Cable Car:
4.8 km. Route here.
Combine a bike ride with the Madrid Cable Car, a very romantic plan to enjoy with your partner. The cable car takes you to the center of Casa de Campo, where you can stroll around and enjoy the incredible views of Madrid. Here You can see the prices and schedules
4 Boats of Retiro:
1.5 km. Rute here.
